Why you should consider becoming a British Cycling member

British Cycling has to be one of the best known cycling organisations in the UK, having led the GB road and track teams to unprecedented triumphs in recent years. With this success, some people may not be aware that they represent all cyclists, from commuters to athletes. We’ve taken a closer look at the different membership options, and how they could help you.

British Cycling offers four different levels of membership: RaceRideCommute and Fan, so there’s an option geared for anyone who rides, or prefers watching others ride (fast)! The first question most people ask is: ‘why do I need a membership to ride a bike?’. The answer is, you don’t, but becoming a British Cycling member comes with loads of benefits which you might not know about…

Bikmo’s British Cycling members

At Bikmo, there’s quite a few life-long British Cycling members so I did a quick Q+A with a few to see if there’s anything else you need to know…

Which British Cycling membership do you have?

Ride.

Why did you go for that membership?

I enjoy riding my MTB so I chose the ride membership as some of the guys I ride with recommended it. The ride membership was the most affordable option which gave me what I needed, such as discounts and priority for tickets for events.

What’s the best thing about being a British Cycling member?

I regularly use the discounts you receive as a BC member, especially the discounts with Chain Reaction and Training Peaks.

Which British Cycling membership do you have?

Commute.

Why did you go for that membership?

I don’t race, I just ride for fun and to work. I got this option for the personal insurances, and discounts.

What’s the best thing about being a British Cycling member? It’s nice to know that I’m helping to support the work that BC do to create positive changes for cycling in Britain.

Which British Cycling membership do you have?

Race Silver.

Why did you go for that membership?

Once I got the membership, it allowed me to enter any organised road, mtb or cyclocross race (in relation to my category) I have wanted to take part in.

What’s the best thing about being a British Cycling member?

It gives you access to events all over the UK, both competitive and offers a place to view all of them on your dashboard. It also offers discounts for sports nutrition products and training peaks which is helpful to me.
