Bikmo Insurance FAQs
We apply the Sold Secure lock rating system to our policy requirements; it’s easy to follow and used by the cycling industry – www.soldsecure.com.
Locks are rated for their level of security, and we set a value of bike that is covered by each rating: Bronze (up to €300), Silver (€301 – €1700) and Gold (over €1700).
If your Sold Secure approved U lock comes with an additional wire cable, the cable is not included in the approved rating, it’s just the lock. This means that if you secured the bike through the frame to an immovable object, with the cable only, you wouldn’t be covered!
If you leave your bike unattended away from your home, it’ll need to be locked. There’s times at home too, depending on how you store it, so check out our Locking guide for full details on our requirements.
Locking RequirementsYes – we do insure electric bikes. This includes MTB, road, hybrid, cargo and Brompton Electric bikes.
With our electric bike insurance policy, we can only cover pedal assisted electric bikes that have a maximum continuous rated power output of .25 kW (250 Watts), are restricted to 25 km/h (15.5mph) and are not defined as a ‘mechanically propelled vehicle’ (MPV).
If you use a de-restrictor kit, your e-bike can be propelled without you pedalling or your e-bike motor has more power as standard, then your insurance will be invalid.
If you’re not sure, get in touch with the team.
With your Bikmo Road Cycle Insurance you get €250 or 10% of your total sum insured towards clothing and accessories.
So, if you insure €3,000 bikes, you get €300 cover for clothing and helmets, plus a further €300 towards accessories.
Almost enough for that Rapha jacket then!
Accessories that are coveredWe always recommend insuring for the current replacement value, and the value you state is the maximum value you’ll receive in the event of a total loss and successful claim.
So, if it’s a custom build or you’ve upgraded parts, simply add up the sum of the bike and parts, including pedals, with what it would cost to purchase them at today’s RRP, as doing this ensures that you’ll have enough cover if you need to make a claim.
If the bike is more than 3 years old, settlement will be on the basis of like for like for condition and age.
How to value your bikeYes – Bikmo bike insurance policies provide the same cover abroad as you have in the Republic of Ireland.
You’re covered for up to a maximum of 90 days, in any 12 month period… so go out and explore.
