No – with our electric cargo bike insurance policy, we can only cover pedal-assisted electric bikes that have a maximum power output of 250 watts, are restricted to 15.5mph or 25 km/h and cannot be ridden by someone under the age of 14.
If you use a de-restrictor kit, your e-bike motor has more power as standard, or you have a button/twist & go throttle (not walk assist mode), then your insurance will be invalid and the bike comes under the Road Traffic Act, which means tax and licensing – www.gov.uk/electric-bike-rules
