Sustainability

The basics

Our mission is to protect the world’s cyclists, enabling our customers to spend more time on two wheels. However, no planet, no play.

As a team of people that spend as much time as possible on our bikes in the great outdoors, we are acutely aware of the threats the natural world faces from industry, agriculture and over consumption.

Bikmo + Sustainability

Our first priority is to ensure our business is not contributing to the global emissions warming our planet, and then to enable our customers and community to reduce their impact through riding more.

As part of being a B Corp certified business we release an annual Impact Report covering what we’ve achieved and what we still have to do. We cover where we hit and where we missed in our annual Impact Report. Take a read of our 2022 report and compare our progress with our reports from 2021 and 2020.

Our main impacts

We’ve been measuring and offsetting 100% of our biggest impacts – travel and energy usage – for some time but we know we need to make some bold moves to credibly hit net-zero by 2030. We are making progress and for the first time our 2023 budget includes investment in carbon removal rather than offsetting schemes. Our 2022 emissions will be compensated through carbon capture technology.

In 2023 its time to pick up the pace. We will extend our carbon footprint measurement to meet 100% coverage including home working and energy used to power our tech (AWS’ zero kgCO2e assumption is a little too optimistic for us!). Our Science Based Target initiatives will give the team tangible ways of hitting our near-term goals reaching over 90% reduction per employee by 2030.

What can we support our team with?

Collectively, as a team, we can have a big impact during working hours in how we behave and although as a company we don’t want to impose on the free time of team members, we provide tools and guidance to help individuals make decisions as to the the impact their private lives have on the planet.

Each team member has access to GikiZero, a simple and engaging application that can help estimate your carbon footprint. The best bit is the gamification which suggests changes to your lifestyle and a leaderboard which encourages some healthy competitive action!

We have sustainable options available in our UK pension scheme, operate tax efficient cycle purchases and run training on various aspects of sustainability during All Hands meetings.
