Bikmo + 1% for the Planet

It’s quite a simple concept – give 1% of your annual revenue back to good causes focussed on the environment. As our business grows, so does our giving.

As a small and growing business, we only have so much time we can dedicate towards non-core business and 1% provide a superb framework covering giving and volunteering activities. With cycling having significant environmental and societal benefits (aside from just being generally awesome) there was already a great connection with many of the 1% community.

For the giving part of our 1% commitment, we have chosen to support organisations which represent both local cycling communities and developing countries.

World Bicycle Relief

We chose to work with World Bicycle Relief with their simple concept of ‘changing lives with bicycles’ and it being clear with each bicycle costing (at the time of writing) €147 to deliver, just how much impact we were having.

They also don’t just drop bikes and leave but support local communities by training individuals in the repair of the bikes, keeping their communities riding.

Trash Free Trails

We work with TFT because they approach activism in a positive and collaborative way, it’s a great way for us to become even more active in our local communities. We support local trails and environments through the removal of single use pollution. With their smart Do It Ourselves model anyone anywhere can take part in community action and contribute to their policy informing research State of our Trails report.

Their founder, Dom, has a track record of success in environmental activism through Surfers Against Sewage and although originating from a trail riding background, their remit extends to all trail users on foot, bike, horse or llama.

The Bren Project

Our UK salvage scheme charity partner The Bren Project uses their Chester bike workshop to give local people who face barriers to employment valuable work experience and life skills. Along with Recyclist, bike parts that come to us though our UK claims are donated to Bren generating work and income for the project.

MTBInnsbruck

Our local partner in the mountains, MTB Innsbruck is a network advocating for better infrastructure and awareness for mountain biking in the hills around our Austrian home. With mutual respect for all users of the outdoors, we share the common goal to get more people out riding.
