At Bikmo Plus we pride ourselves on supporting riders of all disciplines and ages who share a passion for riding, and who continue to raise the profile of cycling. Last year we made an awesome move in sponsoring Velocity GlobalBike, a team of junior road racers who’re collectively making waves in the cycling world. Read on to find out more from the Isle of Man Junior stage race over the weekend.

IOM Junior stage race

Not only did the Tour de Yorkshire make headlines over the weekend, but we also saw the IOM junior stage race take place, with our Velocity boys doing well on the road race front.

First up a short prologue to get the show on the road, and Matt Walls put in a great time and came in 5th out of the 80 riders, setting the scene for what was to come. On the Saturday, the boys faced 107km, rolling terrain and the most horrendous weather conditions the guys had seen for some time.

When the going gets tough, the boys get going

Pete Kibble was in tremendous form as he smashed the circuit and came away with the teams first podium of the season in 3rd place. Not to be outdone, Reece Wood put in a fantastic last two laps to bridge a 2 minute gap, and still go on to claim 6th position. With Lewis Bulley rolling in with the bunch, it meant Velocity GlobalBike were leading the team event going into the final stage.

Stage 3

So off to Ramsey the team went, for 93 km of fast circuits facing the boys. Such was the confidence from the previous days’ exploits, there was no doubt they would put in a full shift to ensure every dangerous move was marked. Although a few escapees bounced off the front, they were not in the teams who were our main rivals for the Team Prize, and the boys brought it home with some very mature racing.

Team Manager and Larry Walls commented: “It was great to see the whole team, including Matt D up on the stage for the presentation ceremony, receiving the Overall Team Prize, and showed the whole of the Junior ranks that we have indeed a top quality bunch of riders who are going to be a handful for the rest of the season.”
