Last night saw us host our first ever Facebook Takeover with Bikmo ambassador and awesome MTB rider Katy Curd. As was expected, questions came through in their drones – check them out below.
What is the hardest race you’ve ever ridden?
Maribor Downhill race in 2009 I think. It went from freezing cold with icy tracks, to completely hammering it down with rain, to bright sunshine which made it like riding through porridge so thick your wheels could barely move.
What helps you to get motivated in the morning?
Knowing that I get to ride my bike. I love riding, and knowing I get to go out on my bike always puts a smile on my face. I am also crazy competitive, and I know if I don’t put in the work training in the winter months, then I will suffer during race season.
How do you motivate yourself to carry on training during the winter months?
I’m lucky enough that by running my own coaching business, I can plan my own hours which allows me time to go out during the daytime which it’s not dark. If it’s wet and miserable for me, it just makes it more fun. I love riding in the rain and always have done.
If you were a bike, what would you be and why?
A hardtail 4X bike! Every time I swing my leg over my hardtail, I have the biggest smile on my face. It’s what I grew up riding, and is always guaranteed fun.
Favourite horror movie? (needing suggestions for this weekend!)
I’m not a big film fan (I get bored sitting down for too long) especially not horror films. I have watched The Grudge and Candyman which scared the pants off of me, and I don’t think I’ve watched another one since, so I’ll say those two.
Worst crash you’ve ever had?
La Bresse France 2011. I mis-judged a jump and broke my humorous and separated my shoulder leaving me with nerve damage down my left arm.
What make/model is your new trials bike?
It’s a Zoo Python trials bike. I’m not clued up on my trials bikes to be honest, but I wanted a cheap 2nd hand one to play around on.
Ribena, Crabbies, Ginger Beer or Ameretto & Coke
Are Bikmo actually any good?
No they’re GREAT!! Even better if your stuff gets stolen.
Where do you think the improvements to get onto podiums at the Worlds lie?
I think there are a number of things which go into standing on a World Cup podium. The first being having trained really hard during the winter months, having a good set up on your bike, having the right mind frame at a race and a good group of people around you during the race weekend.
There is so much more that goes into a world cup race than just the 3 days of training and racing.
Have you ever considered sabotaging the competition like Rachel Atherton ?
Hahaha, well personally no. Now you’ve put the idea into my head….watch out girls!
Best technical advancement since you started riding?
Dropper seat posts – best invention out there!
If you could ride with anyone for the day, who would it be?
Tracey Moseley hands down. I’m pretty lucky in fact that I get to ride with her every now and then as she is a good friend of mine, but more than anything a big inspiration to me as well. Every time I ride with Tracy I learn something new.
